Why Sobeys?

Sobeys has been there for me over the years. The company has grown and so have I. They have always provided training and support when needed.

Where you’ll find me

At the Western Canada Retail Support Centre (RSC)

Mail Room Clerk

My first job at Sobeys. In 6 months, I got to know everyone and gained understanding for the many sides of the business.

Order Selector

For 3 years I really got my hands dirty and felt that I was part of a team.

Fork Operator

Being an order selector is really labour intensive, this position was more skill-based. I felt a sense of pride for doing a premium job and stayed in this role for 2 years.

Shipper

Here I became more aware of customer service and the importance of accuracy. There’s a mental aspect to shipping that I really enjoyed… it’s almost an art form!

Dispatcher

It was a tough transition from “friend” to “boss” but I it was worth it for my first taste of being on the “other side of the fence” and the understanding I gained on how our business model works.

Night Foreman

This was a tough shift. Fortunately, I had a really good team of pickers and shippers that made it enjoyable.

Inbound Supervisor

I spent 6 years really cutting my teeth in this role. I learned a lot about logistics, how to be a good supervisor and developed some great relationships with staff members. I really had a sense of ownership and made this role my own. I was also given the opportunity to take courses that helped me grow as a manager.

Maintenance Manager

During this year I got to try my hand at finances – a very good stepping stone for my next position!

Inbound Manager

I’m loving every minute as the Inbound Manager! During the past year I’ve been able to use everything I’ve learned in my past positions and have been able to put some of my ideas and thinking into practice. I’m now in a position where I can mentor supervisors and my experience can help them overcome challenges.

My advice

“Stay Real. Be good to people who support your cause and are part of the solution.”
